Renae Smith

A Texas native and Los Angeles transplant by way of New York City.  Renae Smith no longer has an accent but can put it on like a pro when she needs to talk her way out of a situation.  She’s maintained her southern charm with a bit of New York grit.
Renae was born in the small town of Gregory-Portland, Texas.  It was a big deal when Hollywood came to South Texas to film the television show JAG.  Renae was cast in a flashback scene for the show and after getting to go to costume and make-up, Renae had found her passion.  As a child, acting was an escape.  Her stage debut came when she was cast as the lead in her first school play.  Even in fourth grade, her type cast was clear.  Renae’s first role was Lucy in A Charlie Brown Christmas.  Since then, she’s played a string of smart-talking, ball-busting women including JoAnn Galloway in A Few Good Men and Nurse Ratched in One Flew Over the Cukoos Nest.
The performing arts program at Gregory-Portland School provided Renae the creative outlet she craved and afforded her the opportunity to compete nationally in different drama genres throughout high school.  Her senior year, Renae was given the highest honor in Texas when she received the Samuel French Award for Best Actress at the state one act play competition.  Yearbook Editor, Homecoming Queen, and Salutatorian, Renae had the pick of Universities.
Never having even visited New York City, it took the strong encouragement of Renae’s drama teacher for her to ultimately choose to attend New York University’s prestigious Tisch School of the Arts.  The first in her family to graduate from college, Renae finished with honors, earning a BFA in drama and a minor in producing.  While at NYU, Renae studied at the Stella Adler Conservatory under the late Earle Gister of Yale Drama fame.   Renae continued her education and training while traveling the globe.   She went to Brazil to teach acting workshops to kids, lived in Athens while studing Ancient Greek Theater and relocated to Brisbane, Australia to work as a production assistant on an American film.
With travels and experience under her belt, Renae arrived back in Los Angeles with a renewed passion for acting and the necessary life skills to play strong complex female characters.  Renae finds herself always being drawn to the messy mistakes characters make.  Most recently Renae starred in Feroz, and played a role in the Red Envelope both currently winning accolades on the film festival circuit.
When she’s not acting, Renae is obsessed with home design and renovation.  She’s often guilty of roping her husband into a DIY project.  She currently resides in a colorful DIY filled apartment in Los Angeles, with her husband comedian Steve Trevino.
